Have you cleared your cache?

Do you have different db settings for prod and dev environments?

it`s fresh install

at sfprojects/snipeet/trunk/config/databases.yml

all:
propel:
class: sfPropelDatabase
param:
dsn: mysql://username:pwd@localhost/snipeetdev

does that mean it uses the same db snipeetdev?

your databases.yml looks good. Did you clear the cache or not? What does your Apache log say? What does the symfony log say?

Symfony shouldn't be slow, most of the time the reason why Symfony seems slow is when there are a lot of queries, how much do you have?
