Symfony not executable after install process

by simooo » Tue Dec 02, 2014 8:38 am

Hi all,

I'm trying out Symfony as an option for an upcoming project and hit a couple of strange hurdles in the install process.

Am following the quick tour install guide and have installed Symfony 2.3 twice (using Composer). I only get to the part where the installer should have done its job and you should be able to execute the "symfony" command.

After the terminal telling me that I'm at the same time denied permission to the command and that it doesn't exist, I realise that symfony is not executable. Did something go haywire in the install process here?

Even though it seems wrong I go ahead and manually chmod +x it, after which I receive the following:
PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in phar:///usr/local/bin/symfony/vendor/guzzlehttp/guzzle/src/functions.php on line 24

Turns out my server is running PHP 5.3.4, could this be the problem?

Cheers!

Simon
