phing installation problems

Installation and environment issues, mainly on 1.x but there's some 2.x here too.

phing installation problems

by smallbeer » Sun Nov 27, 2005 3:27 pm

As the title suggests I'm having problems getting phing installed.

I found reference to the same problem here (http://www.symfony-project.com/trac/wiki/BeginningSymfonyWit hPear) but when I try to change the preferred state I get

config-set (preferred-state,alpha,user) failed, channel pear.php.net

Anyone had the same problems or know the reasons why?

OK you always seem to see the problem straight away after you write it down.

I needed preferred_state not preferred-state.

So I spoke too soon.

I'm still trying to install phing and getting the error

Your problem is right there in the first warning telling you to run "pear channel-update pear.php.net"

hi smallbeer,

I ran into that problem myself after writing the BeginningSymfonyWithPear wiki entry.

I didn't do a really good job of documenting what I found, but if I recall correctly,

A simple solution would be to edit your php.ini file as follows:

1. Make sure that extension=php_xdebug.dll is commented OUT.
2. Go to the bottom of the file and look for the [Zend] section. Mine looks like this:

Code: Select all
[Zend]
;zend_extension_ts = "c:\xampp\php\ext\php_dbg.dll"
zend_extension_ts = "c:\xampp\php\ext\php_xdebug.dll"
zend_extension_ts = "C:\xampp\php\zendOptimizer\lib\ZendExtensionManager.dll"
;zend_extension_manager.optimizer_ts = "C:\xampp\php\zendOptimizer\lib\Optimizer"
zend_optimizer.enable_loader = 0
zend_optimizer.optimization_level=15
;zend_optimizer.license_path =

The first key here is to add the `zend_extension_ts` pointing to your php_xdebug.dll as it must be loaded as a Zend Extension.

The second important thing is to comment out the line that ends in lib\Optimizer My example shows that. xdebug is not compatible with the Zend Optimizer.

Be sure to make this change in your apache\bin copy of php.ini -- if applicable.

HTH, spascoe

-- I've added the wiki entry http://www.symfony-project.com/trac/wiki/XdebugOnWindows to note this, It is also referenced from http://www.symfony-project.com/trac/wiki/BeginningSymfonyWit hPear.
