Blank Page after install

by carc » Mon Aug 30, 2010 6:16 pm

Hello everybody

My problem is a bit complicated, let's start explaining :

I'm on a mutualized server, so I don't have access to SSH and can't use rsync.
Therefore, I copied my local site, which works pretty good on my pc, on the server using FTP. I made these changes in my ProjectConfiguration.class.php:
Code: Select all
$this->setWebDir('/www');
   $this->setCacheDir('/www/tmp/symfony_cache');
    $this->setLogDir('/www/tmp/symfony_logs');

I then ran the clear cache utility, before copying, setted up the Database, uploaded it and... nothing. There's only a blank page. After a few researches, I saw on a forum that it could come from the cache directory. So I checked the permissions (777) and emptied it, same for the log directory. But it is still not working.

I have no clue of what's wrong, though. Has anyone seen this before?

Are you sure those are the full paths on the server? Because that's what it looks like you are specifying.

There must be some way to run pwd on the server to find out where your stuff is actually located.

Throw a phpinfo() page up there and see if you can find the true directories because on a shared system I doubt you are in /www

Good luck

Thank you for your response.

I tried replacing the code before with:
Code: Select all
$this->setWebDir($this->getRootDir ().'/www');
   $this->setCacheDir($this->getRootDir().'/www/tmp/symfony_cache');
    $this->setLogDir($this->getRootDir ().'/www/tmp/symfony_logs');

Nothing changes. As for the PHPinfo, I don't really see any mistake...

Do you have access to your php or httpd error logs? You might want to check those if you can.

Ughhh. I don't know enough about the .htaccess file that symfony creates.

The error says it can't find that file in the symfony project. Can you find the file?

ok, I have some new.

So, in my projetctConfiguration file, il tried to replace the backslashes with simple slashes, and it kind of worked. I say kind of, because now my apache error log tells me this :

[Mon Aug 30 20:57:07 2010] [error] [client 78.229.193.48] PHP Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'InvalidArgumentException' with message 'The application "frontend" does not exist.' in /var/www/nevachehot/lib/vendor/symfony/lib/config/sfProjectConfiguration.class.php:609
[Mon Aug 30 20:57:07 2010] [error] [client 78.229.193.48] Stack trace:
[Mon Aug 30 20:57:07 2010] [error] [client 78.229.193.48] #0 /var/www/nevachehot/www/index.php(6): sfProjectConfiguration::getApplicationConfiguration('frontend', 'prod', true)
[Mon Aug 30 20:57:07 2010] [error] [client 78.229.193.48] #1 {main}
[Mon Aug 30 20:57:07 2010] [error] [client 78.229.193.48] thrown in /var/www/nevachehot/lib/vendor/symfony/lib/config/sfProjectConfiguration.class.php on line 609

No need to say that in this case too I don't have a single clue of what is going on ^^

At this point I would start searching online documentation for the frontend missing error. Symfony may be complaining about more missing files but you should be able to turn on logging for prod temporarily and see what error symfony is giving you?

So, after a day of investigation.

I am still at the same point, and I still don't know where it comes from. It appears to me that the application directory is not found. The only way I can explain this, is that the, in the sfProjectConfiguration.class.php used method guessRootDir() not returns the good root dir. Is that a possibility?

I would try to get the application running without changing the webdir, cachedir, and logdir first.
Just put the whole site in your www directory, fix the premissions and go to it like this:

Code: Select all
mysite.fr/symfonyproject/www

If it still doesn't work we know a lot more than we did and could start attacking that problem. What do you think?
