GoDaddy linux shared hosting

by witcradg » Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:38 pm

I have my first Symfony 1.4 project completed as a fully functional prototype on my laptop (Windows) by working through the docs at http://www.symfony-project.org/doc/1_4/. I deployed the project by adapting the instructions for deployment in the docs with some information I found online after a lot of searching. The server is a GoDaddy php5 linux shared hosting environment. This is strictly a development/user acceptance environment, but I need to get the prototype functional before I can justify a virtual dedicated server to the guy paying the bills. I had the first page working on GoDaddy, but I was unable to get the "submit form" to connect to the app modlue on GoDaddy. Is anyone aware a specific issue with Symfony routing under GoDaddy? My command of routing.yml is not the best, I'm thinking GoDaddy might be doing something unusual under the covers.

Of course, this is a production deployment without the development components that might help me debug. So now I'm trying to do a full development installation in my shared hosting development environment. There is so much stuff out there for Symfony on GoDaddy but much of it is out of date. Is anyone aware of a site that might provide additional insight?

Has anyone successfully used this method? I'm not getting the result I expected. I expected to see output from index.php when I try:
http://www.mydomain.com or http://www.mydomain.com/index.php but I'm getting the system 404 error (not Symfony).
When I try http://www.mydomain.com/web/index.php the correct index.php file runs.

You can see here a full description of how to solve the godaddy problem: http://www.ens.ro/2012/03/13/how-to-make-symfony-1-x-work-on-godaddy-shared-hosting/

I think what the asker wanted to know was what linux distro your servers use… not what version of apache you’re using. Linux distro as in Ubuntu, CentOS, etc..
