No access to the symfony_data/web/sf/ directory

by anck_22 » Mon Mar 17, 2008 2:58 pm

Hello
I had installed symfony, and I started working on askeet project.
The httpd.conf file looks like:

<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName askeet
DocumentRoot "/var/www/html/sfprojects/askeet/web"
DirectoryIndex index.php
Alias /sf /bin/PEAR/data/symfony/web/sf

<Directory "/var/www/html/sfprojects/askeet/web">
AllowOverride All
</Directory>

# <Directory "/bin/PEAR/data/symfony/web/sf">
# AllowOverride All
# </Directory>

</VirtualHost>

When I try to open the askeet project in my browser I receive the message:

Symfony Project Created
Congratulations! You have successfully created your symfony project.

Project setup successful
This project uses the symfony libraries. If you see no image in this page, you may need to configure your
web server so that it gains access to the symfony_data/web/sf/ directory.

I checked the paths, EVERYTHING seems ok, i saved, restarted apache, tested .. the same - no images. What is wrong with the virtual host config, or what should i do to give apache acces to symfony_data/web/sf/ directory?

You should check if the /bin/PEAR/data/symfony/web/sf path exists. If not you could for example run the command

Code: Select all
find / -name sf_admin 2>/dev/null

and it should give you an idea where the symfony/web/sf is.

Thank you Gabriel!
I follow your suggestion and I run
find / -name sf_admin 2>/dev/null/

and the answer was:
/bin/PEAR/data/symfony/web/sf/sf_admin/

so, as you can see, the path exists.

OK so it might be the permissions on the directory then. Mine are set to 755.

I checked the directories' permissions. They already are 755.
What else can be? :(~ :-(~ :sad:

Make sure you also have the first line below. Mine is a bit different to yours, as is a windows setup. I've put your directories into my setup, see if it works for you.

(by the way, when posting code, please use
Code: Select all
 tags, it makes it much easier to read your post, Thanks! ;)~ ;-)~ :wink: )

[code]NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80

# These are Symfony development virtual hosts

<VirtualHost askeet:80>
  ServerName askeet
  DocumentRoot "/var/www/html/sfprojects/askeet/web"
  DirectoryIndex index.php
  Alias /sf "/bin/PEAR/data/symfony/web/sf"
  <Directory "/var/www/html/sfprojects/askeet/web">
   AllowOverride All
   Allow from All
  </Directory>
  <Directory "/bin/PEAR/data/symfony/web/sf">
    AllowOverride All
    Allow from All
  </Directory>
</VirtualHost>

Also fixed my problem. Perhaps this should be incorporated into the official install docs? It took a while to find, until I googled the image error on the default page.

Yeah it should be I'm surprised it isn't. I have put it into Day 1 of Askeet though so if you do that day you would have got it :P

You will find days 1-4 of Askeet a good intro, after that I think they may be very out of date but I'm not sure any more.
