Hi,

i have few questions about install askeet, pls help me:

1. what locate in this link: http://www.symfony-project.org/downloads/askeet_release_1_0. tgz - its worked script or what?
2. if its worked script, can its install as standalone on webserver? I need own website like http://www.askeet.com/
3.ok, how install this script on webserver: i must install symfony sandbox before, or i can install only askeet source?
4. What is right installation askeet script? Pls tell me link.

I cannt make step-by-step tutorial for askeet from zero. I want install fully worked script, its possible?

Or i must make step-by-step tutorial? If yes, than what is this: http://www.symfony-project.org/downloads/askeet_release_1_0. tgz

1) This link is the finished source code for the askeet project. Unfortunately, the askeet project is notorious for being filled with bugs. Furthermore, this is based on a much older version of Symfony and will quite possible have problems with the current version of Symfony.
2) If the script did work, then yes, it would function like any other Symfony web app (including the sandbox) and could be made to work on a domain like http://www.askeet.com/
3) There are always 2 parts to a Symfony project. The first is the project itself - both the sandbox and the askeet projects are examples of that. The second is the symfony library upon which the projects rely. These can either be placed externally to the project or right inside the project itself (as is the case with sandbox). In either case, the config/config.php file needs to point to the location of the library.
4) The link you have for askeet is the closest thing to a working script that exists (that I know of). Askeet isn't meant to be an application you download and use. Rather, it's intended to be a learning tool, and the source code was created to assist you as you are building along with Symfony.

Thank you. Another words, Sanbox include Askeet files? I see images of Askeet in Sandbox folders. Im right?

If im right, then i must run ste-by-step 24 day tutorial for receive fully working askeet script as standalone for my webserver? I want make it on Sandbox, its possible?

Ok, my newbee quest:
in tutorial says: "Fist, create a new repository for the askeet project:
Code: Select all
$ svnadmin create $SVNREP_DIR/askeet
$ svn mkdir -m "layout creation" file:///$SVNREP_DIR/askeet/trunk file:///$SVNREP_DIR/askeet/tags file:///$SVNREP_DIR/askeet/branches

Where i must insert this code? I work on local computer with XAMPP. And i not see any command line in symfony. How run command line?

taobao

You're closer, but you're still missing the idea on some things. First, askeet and the sandbox are 2 completely different, unrelated things. They both simple represent Symfony sites - individual examples.

Next, the commands, svnadmin and svn are NOT symfony commands. They are part of the powerful revision control system called Subversion. It is very commonly used to manage your code, but is not at all related or required to use Symfony.

I think you need to backup and start reading the book. This is what I did when I first started using Symfony.

http://www.symfony-project.org/book/1_0/

Also, I HIGHLY recommend that you run through the "My First Symfony Project" tutorial before the Askeet tutorial, the Askeet tutorial is much more advanced:

http://www.symfony-project.org/tutorial/1_0/my-first-project

Good luck

Thanks for your help. But i choose another way. I search this link: http://trac.askeet.com/

I think its that what i need.

And i use SVN, files copy on my hard disk. Its ok. But i see command:
"Create the database structure by calling:

Code: Select all
> php symfony propel-insert-sql
"

How install this code and where?
I use windows with local server. Can i insert info about askeet data base in propel.ini file? Or im not right?

Thank u,

yes, you put your database info into propel.ini and database.yml

that command is issued directly from the windows command line from within the project directory

not to keep repeating myself, but this is all explained in the book...

@taobao,

Do a search on google or here for that problem. Your system path needs to be amended.

Meanwhile, some advice: we get a lot of people here asking lots of questions, and a few posts don't get answered. Generally the ones that don't get answered are the ones who don't look like they've really *tried* to answer AND research the problem themselves. Also, don't run before you can walk! As weaverryan says, read through the book (it's free if you don't want to buy a paper copy) and work through the first tutorial.

Hello to anyone!

I have one stupid question.
I installed symfony, pear was used.

Now I need to find made project powered by symfony.
So I decided to use askeet.

I've downloaded askeet.tgz and tried to use it.
And became this message.

Quote: wrote:

If you really need askeet to work, you can check this out:

http://forum.symfony-project.org/index.php/m/75238/#msg_7523 8

BUT, askeet is OLD OLD OLD. Askeet is designed to work with Symfony 1.0. To get Askeet to work with the current version of Symfony (1.2.x) would require MAJOR changes.

The replacement for askeet is Jobeet - and it's a super-fantastic tutorial / project designed for Symfony 1.2.x:
