askeet first day tutorial - installation

by peterjc » Sat Jul 26, 2008 8:22 am

hi, i am really new to simfony and does not ever use command line. i am using windows xp with xampp (PHP Version 5.1.6.) installed.

So, for me to start the day 1 tutorial,i think it is using the windows xp cmd.exe command prompt(am i correct?)!

i found this thread:
http://www.symfony-project.org/forum/index.php/m/45598/?srch =where+to+type+command+line#msg_45598

one user post:
"In order to get a DOS-window: START > EXECUTE > type "run" (without the quotes) and then go to your symfony directory and then you can execute those commands!"

So, my question is where is the symfony directory? What should i download first? Is it download the sandbox for this tutorial or download the Source Download?

Do i need to install the PEAR?

Could someone provide more detail about what should i need when start this tutorial?

Sorry, i am really new to this.
Thank in advance

The easiest way to start would probably be to install PEAR, then install symfony. There is a chapter in the symfony book about installing the program through PEAR http://www.symfony-project.org/book/1_1/03-Running-Symfony.

You may find it easier to use symfony 1.0 instead of 1.1 for the askeet tutorial, because there are some fundamental differences between the two, as I have discovered while going through the askeet tutorial myself.

Hope this helps. :D~ :-D~

I highly recommend installing the "Open Command Window Here" PowerToy, download here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/Downloads/powertoys/Xppow ertoys.mspx

Open Command Window Here

This PowerToy adds an "Open Command Window Here" context menu option on file system folders, giving you a quick way to open a command window (cmd.exe) pointing at the selected folder.
