Day 1 - 404 in browser using MAMP on Leopard

by stronzo420 » Wed Dec 03, 2008 7:56 pm

Hi folks,

I think I've done everything right but when I go to http://askeet/ I get the ole Failed to connect message.

I've got MAMP on Mac Leopard. Can view the http://localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English so it seems to be working correctly.

Installed symfony via pear and it got 1.2.0 but I managed to go back to 1.0.11.

Code: Select all
hals-macbook-pro:bin hal$ symfony -V
symfony version 1.0.11

Generated the project in my documents dir so it's in:

Code: Select all
/Users/hal/Documents/sfprojects/askeet

/Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf has:

Code: Select all
#
# Use name-based virtual hosting.
#

# NameVirtualHost *

NameVirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80

<VirtualHost 127.0.0.1:80>
  ServerName askeet
  DocumentRoot "/Users/hal/Documents/sfprojects/askeet/web"
  DirectoryIndex index.php
  Alias /sf /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/lib/php/data/symfony/web/sf

  <Directory "/Users/hal/Documents/sfprojects/askeet/web">
   AllowOverride All
  </Directory>
</VirtualHost>

/etc/hosts has:

Code: Select all
##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting.  Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1       localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1             localhost
fe80::1%lo0     localhost
127.0.0.1       askeet

And I've restarted the server. Any ideas?

Can you ping `askeet` and get it to resolve to your localhost?

Yup, actually it does resolve correctly:

Code: Select all
PING askeet (127.0.0.1): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.042 ms
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.073 ms
64 bytes from 127.0.0.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.049 ms
etc.

Got it. MAMP sets ports to 8888. Changed MAMP Apache back to default 80 port and things are working.
