Forum search restricted

by ljpumas » Wed Aug 25, 2010 4:51 pm

Hi moderators,

often I have the problem that I can't use the search how I need it.
E.g. when I want to search for "i18n", "generator", "view.yml" etc. I get the message:
The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: generator.

For that reason now I use other plattforms to exchange problems and solutions. Are you going to change this in the future for a better use?

Regards,
LP

We had no plans to, but are quite happy to respond to requests.

I have reduced the "Common word threshold" from 5% to 2% and will email Fabien to ask him to regen the search index. Hopefully that will help... if it doesn't we can disable the common word system entirely, though I don't know if that has any knock-on negative effects!

Hi halfer,

wow, thx for the quick setting changes :-)
I just tried to serach again for "generator" but I get the same message like before.

The best case would be if it were possible to get results e.g. for "i18n" (shouldn't be a stop word) at least for topic titles.

Thx for your help.

I haven't received anything from Fabien, but will let you know. You won't see any changes until the index is regenerated.

We tried reducing the threshold, and this didn't work, so we've turned the feature off entirely. Your search words now work :)
