1.1 to 1.2 upgrade

Postby MMacLeod » Sun Aug 10, 2008 12:26 am

I'm just about to start a large new project in Symfony. My question is should I wait until the 1.2 release in October (assuming it stays on schedule)? How difficult will it be to upgrade from 1.1 to 1.2 when 1.2 is released? And to also update the website to utilize the new features/fixes being introduced in 1.2? I will be using pear to install and upgrade.

Thanks very much

This is just my guess, but what I've been saying is if you are on the 1.1 upgrade now, wait until 1.2 becomes stable. Most of the hard work I suspect will be in converting 1.0 projects to 1.1.

OK so you'd so say go ahead with the project in 1.1 and then upgrade to 1.2 because the upgrade shouldn't be too much of a hassle? Less work than 1.0 to 1.1 at least?

That's my view, yes, though bear in mind I don't work on the codebase. See the blog for one refactoring that has gone into 1.2 already, btw.
