Forms in 2.0

Postby rscarriere » Sun Feb 28, 2010 6:00 am

Is anyone aware of how forms will be handled in 2.0? Will the existing forms framework be turned into a bundle? Or is there talk of using a third party framework (such as Zend_Form). I'm just curious because I am thinking of using 2.0 for a personal project.

Thanks.

I think too much work has gone into the forms system for it to not be available in 2.0. That said, I should think 2.0 will be amenable to using other forms frameworks - it just won't be as well integrated with the ORM.

I think if you have a personal project to start now, you should use 1.4 and upgrade to 2.0 in a year if there is a compelling reason to do so. There is limited benefit to using 2.0 immediately, and the major drawbacks are that the ORM and the Forms systems are not integrated yet.

Thanks Halfer. I was considering 2.0 just because I a) wanted to understand it better and b) was worried the upgrade path from 1.4=>2.0 would be very time consuming. I spent some time reflecting over the weekend and I will probably follow your advice about sticking with 1.4 for now.
